Chants Set to Continue Indoor Season at Bob Pollock Invitational

The two-day meet will be hosted at Clemson
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's indoor track & field team will return to action this weekend at the Bob Pollock Invitational on Jan. 29-30 hosted by Clemson University at Clemson's Indoor Track & Field Complex.
No fans or spectators will be allowed inside the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex during the meet.
The Chanticleers will be competing for the third-straight weekend and are off to a great start to the season led by several sophomores and freshmen.
Sophomore Melissa Jefferson is coming off a win in the 60-meter dash last week at the Liberty Elite Invitational and has the top time in the Sun Belt for both the 60-meters (7.49) and 200-meters (24.76).
Newcomer Jermaisha Arnold has recorded two individual wins this season in the 400-meters, crossing the finish line first at both the Gamecock Opener (54.30) and the Liberty Elite event (54.36). Her time of 54.30 at the South Carolina event ranking is the top mark in the Sun Belt while she also has the fourth-best time this season in the 200-meters with a time of 24.97.
Fellow freshmen runners Kayla Sweeney, Sydney Clemens, Lauren Gordon, Amaryah White, and Shani'a Bellamy have also registered top 10 times in the conference to date over several events. Sweeney has the sixth-best time in the 200-meters (25.15) and ranks 10th in the Sun Belt in the 60-meters (7.73), while Clemens ranks seventh in the 60-meter hurdles (8.80). Gordon has turned in the eighth-best mark of the year in the 200-meters (25.37), White ranks seventh in the Sun Belt in the 400-meters (57.69), and Bellamy has the ninth-best time in the 60-meter hurdles (8.89).
Not to be overlooked by the newcomers, sophomores Erin Palmer, Tariney Pepper, and Nikki Boon are also off to great starts to the season, as Palmer ranks 14th overall in the Sun Belt in the 60-meter hurdles (9.04) and 18th in the 200-meters (25.69). Pepper has the 15th-best time in the 400-meters (58.75) and is part of the 4x400-meter relay unit with Arnold, Bellamy, and White that turned in the best time of the year to date in the Sun Belt at 3:50.30. Boon is 19th overall in the 800-meters (2:32.80).
In the field events, again the Chants are led by youth in freshmen Kayla Ulmer and Kadasia Evans.
Ulmer sits in sixth overall in the Sun Belt in the triple jump (11.49m), while Evans ranks ninth in the league in the high jump (1.63m). Sophomore Jaquoia Williams is 13th in the triple jump (11.13m), five spots in front of freshman Emerson Brown in 18th (10.79m).
In the throws, freshman India Wright ranks 12th in the conference in the shot put (12.73m), while classmate Alexis Estep is 16th in the shot put (12.25m) and 19th in the weight throw (13.53m).
Juniors Katie Bond and Grace Forren are tied for 14th overall in the conference in the pole vault at 2.67 meters.
