
Chanticleer Men Open 2021 Outdoor Season at Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge

Coastal men return to track since 2019
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's outdoor track and field team will be in action this weekend for the first time since the 2019 season as they travel down the road to their home away from home, Doug Shaw Stadium, for the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge.
The Chanticleer men have just six returners that were part of the 2019 team.
The group includes graduate student Andrew Southard, seniors Doug Mullen and Ty Floyd, junior Stephen Kirkwood, and sophomores Ryver Morrow and Jalen Parrish.
Southard set two personal-best times in the 2019 outdoor season that included a 1:53.93 in the 800 meters during the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational and a 3:55.26 in the 1500 meters at the Raleigh Relays.
Mullen had two top-10 finishes in 2019. In the 5000 meters, the Kings Park, N.Y., native finished in sixth-place finish at the Coastal Carolina Invitational with a time of 16:00.22 and the distance runner had a 10th-place finish at the Bill Carson Invitational when he crossed the finish line at 16:01.41.
Floyd had five top-10 finishes, including four top-fives, and a personal-best mark during the 2019 season.
The Greenwood, S.C., native was an integral part of the 4x100 team that earned a first-place time of 40.40 at the Winthrop Twilight to close out the Chanticleers' regular season. The senior also added his best time of the season in the 200-meter race at the USC Open when he finished with a time of 22.04 (0.3).
Kirkwood, Morrow, and Parrish will lead the Coastal men in the field competitions in 2021.
Kirkwood, a shot-putter, had two top-15 finishes two seasons ago that included a 10th-place finish at the Bill Carson Invitational when he threw a personal-best 13.36 meters at the South Carolina Gamecock Opener, the Mount Laurel, N.J., native finished 12th.
Morrow, a pole-vaulter, had two top-10 finishes in 2019 that included his personal-best at the Gamecock Invitational, where he vaulted 4.35 meters.
Parrish, a triple-jumper, competed in three meets in 2019, where he saved his best effort for last as he jumped 13.97 meters at the Sun Belt Track and Field Championships.
The Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge kicks off on Friday at 10 a.m. ET and will run through Saturday evening.
