Coastal Carolina Continues Season-Opening Road Trip

Women’s basketball set for the matchup versus Kentucky

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will continue the 2022-23 season-opening road trip in Lexington, Ky., on Sunday, Nov. 13, as the Chanticleers will battle the Kentucky Wildcats, their second Southeastern Conference opponent. The opening tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET at the Stegeman Coliseum.
 
The game will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams on the hardwood. Coastal was picked to finish 12th in the Sun Belt Conference in the preseason coaches poll.
 
LAST TIME OUT
 
The Chanticleers dropped their season-opening contest 78-61 versus the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens, Ga. last Monday.
 
ABOUT COASTAL
 
The Chants are averaging 61 points per game while shooting 37.3 percent from the field and 30.4 from three-point range. Defensively, Coastal allowed 78 points to Georgia, while the Bulldogs shot 46.6 percent from the floor. The Chanticleers lost the rebound battle to the Bulldogs, as UGA outrebounded CCU 41-34.
 
Newcomer Anaya Barney led the team with 16 points, while returners Aja Blount and Angie Juste-Jean added 13 and 12 points, respectively. Blount was the leading rebounder grabbing eight boards, while Barney and Arin Freeman snagged five boards each.
 
ABOUT KENTUCKY
 
The Kentucky Wildcats return five players from the 2021-22 team that finished last season with a 19-12 record and 8-8 in the SEC. The Wildcats' top returning scorer is Jada Walker with 10.4 points per game, while Robyn Benton and Emma King chipped in with 8.8 and 2.2 points per game, respectively.
 
As a team, Kentucky is averaging 77.5 points per contest while allowing 63 points per game. The Wildcats outshot by its opponents 48.1 percent to 43.5 percent from the floor. On the year, the Wildcats have grabbed 68 rebounds per game, while their opponents have grabbed 66 boards per contest.
 
UK's Benton leads the team with 14 points per game, while Blair Green has added 11 points per contest. Adebola Adeyeye is the leading rebounder with 16 boards, and guard Maddie Scherr has dished out 16 assists to lead the team.
