Chanticleers Ready for Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's and women's track & field programs will participate in the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational this weekend, March 18-19, at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, on the campus of nearby Myrtle Beach High School. This marks their second outdoor meet of the spring season.
Last week at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge, David Ejumeta (men's long jump), and Garrett Bivens (men's 5000-meters) found the winner's circle in their respective events, while Shani'a Bellamy (women's 100-meters) placed first in the preliminaries on day one. The meet was shortened to one day due to inclement weather in the area.
On Friday, Coastal Carolina University's Melissa Jefferson, who just claimed the 60-meter NCAA Indoor Track & Field individual national championship for 2022, will be recognized for her accomplishment at the meet.
Jefferson, a junior from Georgetown, S.C., is the first CCU student-athlete to claim an individual NCAA national title. Her winning time in the 60-meters was 7.09.
Former Coastal Carolina Track & Field Head Coach Alan Connie, for whom this week's event is named, will also be recognized Friday. Connie, the meet's namesake, will be honored for his many contributions to the local track & field community during ceremonies at 2:30 p.m., prior to the start of the women's 100-meter hurdles preliminaries.
This weekend, Coastal Carolina University, Visit Myrtle Beach, and the City of Myrtle Beach will officially announce that next year's 2023 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, Thursday-Saturday, May 11-13, 2023.
