Chanticleers Gear Up For NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Regionals

CONWAY, S.C. – Fourteen members of the Coastal Carolina men's and women's Track & Field teams will compete in the NCAA Outdoor East Regionals, which will take place at the Robert C. Hough Track and Field Complex in Bloomington, Indiana from Wednesday, May 25 through Saturday, May 28.
WOMEN
Melissa Jefferson will line up for the 100-meters and 200-meters events. Kayla Sweeney will also compete in the 100-meters, while Mekenze Kelley will take part in the 200-meters. Across the two events at the 2022 Sun Belt Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Jefferson notched a pair of victories and broke seven records in two Sun Belt, two meet, two facility, and a program benchmark.
Kelley and Jermaisha Arnold qualified for the 400-meters preliminary round. The duo finished first and second, respectively, at the Sun Belt meet in the event, where Kelley earned the top spot on the podium with her time of 51.98, which is a new personal best, facility, meet, and school record, while Arnold finished second in 52.21.
Alexis Glasco and Shani'a Bellamy will line up for the 100-meter hurdles preliminary after claiming the top two spots for the event at the Sun Belt Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Glasco won the event in 13.16 seconds, which was a new facility record, and narrowly missed her CCU record by .01.
Bellamy posted a pair of top-five finishes, one each in the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles. Bellamy finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a new personal best time of 13.42, while tallying a fifth-place finish in the 400-meters (1:00.25).
The Chants have also qualified for the 4 x 100 and the 4 x 400-meter relay events.
MEN
Reggie Barlow and Garrett Wilkins will participate in the 100-meter dash, while DeVonte Harris will line up for the 200-meter dash. Barlow finished fourth in the event at the 2022 Sun Belt Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a season-best time of 10.34 seconds, while Harris finished eighth (21.19 seconds) in the 200-meters at the Sun Belt meet.
Jeremiah Talbert will compete in the 400-meters, having earned a spot with his sixth-place finish at the Sun Belt meet (season-best time of 47.89). Tyler Graves and Braydon Bennett will line up for the 110-meter hurdles, where Graves earned the silver medal at the Sun Belt meet with a time of 13.79. Graves also qualified for the 400-meters with his second-place finish at the Sun Belt meet with a personal best time of 50.50 seconds.
The Chanticleers have also qualified to compete in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400-meter relay events.
In the men's field events, David Ejumeta will take part in the long jump event, while Jake Heydon will compete in the javelin throw.
