Chants set a school record in hurdles, distance, and relay events
CLEMSON, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's indoor track & field team continued its record-setting season by breaking not one, not two, but three school records on day one of the Clemson Bob Pollock Invitational on Friday in Clemson, S.C.
Â
Sophomore sprinter and hurdler Alexis Glasco broke her own school record, which she set last weekend at the 2023 Carolina Challenge, in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line with a time of 8.21 in the preliminaries to qualify for the finals.
Â
In the 60-meter hurdles finals, Glasco placed fifth overall with a time of 8.27, finishing two spots in front of teammate Sydney Clemens and her seventh-place time of 8.75. Clemens reached the finals heat with a personal-best mark of 8.36 in the prelims, which was also the fourth-fastest time for the hurdles event in CCU's indoor history.
Â
CCU's second school record came in the 1-mile run, as junior Molly Jones recorded a time of 4:48.64 to place ninth overall in the distance event. Jones' time was not only a new school record, but was almost a full two seconds faster than the previous mark.
Â
The third CCU record came in the relay events, as the team of Ellie Wolski, Amanda Kinloch, Amilia Wise-Sweat, and Jones turned in a fourth-place finish in the distance medley relay with a school record time of 11:45.23.
Â
Including the three record-setting performances, the Chanticleers totaled nine top-10 finishes.
Â
Glasco (7.47) and Kayla Sweeney (7.51) finished ninth and 10th overall in the 60-meter dash, while Clemens placed 16th overall with a personal-best time of 7.61. Her time also placed her 10th overall for the sprint event in CCU's annals.
Â
In the 400-meters, Lauren Gordon turned in a personal-best time of 55.63 to place fourth overall, while Amaryah White crossed the finish line in seventh place with her personal-best time of 56.00. Gordon's time ranks fourth on CCU's all-time performance list, while White's was ninth.
Â
In the field events on Friday, Kynnedy Dennis finished seventh in the pole vault unseeded event with a mark of 3.72 meters, while despite missing out on the top 10, the Chants' Zayna Fray-Samuel (17.83 meters) and Lauralyn Clifford (17.25 meters) both etched their names into CCU's all-time top-10 list in the weight throw event.
Â
The Bob Pollock Invitational will continue tomorrow starting at 9 a.m. ET.
