Coastal Carolina Heads to Texas State for Season Finale

Volleyball claimed its fifth Sun Belt East Division title

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina volleyball team will travel to San Marcos, Texas, to close out the 2023 regular season versus Texas State for a pair of Sun Belt contests on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 9-10, at 7 p.m. ET for both matches on ESPN+.
 
SUN BELT EASTERN DIVISION CHAMPS
This is the fifth Sun Belt East Division title and first for Coastal Carolina since the 2020 season. The Chants previously won the SBC East in 2016, 2017, and 2019 with both the 2016 and 2017 years leading to conference tournament titles.
 
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL & TEXAS STATE
The Chanticleers trail the all-time series 9-3 and have dropped the last eight meetings after winning 3-of-4 matches to open the series.
 
ABOUT COASTAL
The Chanticleers enter the match with a 18-8 overall and 13-1 Sun Belt record after splitting a pair of home contests with the South Alabama Jaguars. Coastal saw its 13-match win streak come to an end this past weekend.
 
Coastal is led by outside hitter Jasmine Rivest, who has 403 kills on the season and 464.5 points for a 5.22 points per set average. Rivest, a redshirt senior, is joined by freshman Jalyn Stout, who has 279 kills for 314.5 points. Stout also has 382 assists and 257 digs for an NCAA best 10 triple-doubles. Agata Lesiak and Lauren Malone have helped out the offense with 190 and 186 spikes, respectively. Cagla Bengi is Coastal's assists leader with 671.
 
On the defensive side, freshman libero Sydney Lewis helps the offense get set up with a team-high 366 digs. Valentina Varani and Dilara Unal protect the front line with 88 and 87 blocks, respectively, while Rivest (45), Lesiak (44), and Stout (22) have over 20 blocks on the year.
 
ABOUT TEXAS STATE
The Bobcats enter the week with an 18-7 overall and 11-3 SBC record after taking a pair of matches from Troy last weekend. Texas State has won eight straight matches.
 
KJ Johnson and Samantha Wunsch lead the Bobcats' offensive attack with 322 and 271 kills, respectively, while Maggie Walsh (137) and Bailey Hanner (114) have added over 110 spikes. Texas State's offense is aided by Ryann Torres (613) and Carlee Pharris (307) who has a combined 920 of the team's 1,073 assists on the season.
 
The Bobcats' defense is led by Jade Defraeye (105), Wunsch (88), and Hanner (81) as the only Jags with 80 or more blocks, while Johnson has stopped 44 kill attempts. Alyssa Ortega has 329 digs to lead Texas State while Walsh and Jacqueline Lee have added 249 and 230 digs, respectively.
