Chants will compete in Alabama on Feb. 20-21

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's indoor track & field team will return to action on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 20-21, at the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.

The Chanticleers will look to build on last year's indoor conference championship performances, as the Chanticleers set two Sun Belt Conference records and recorded their best team finish since joining the Sun Belt in 2016-17, placing fifth overall with a total of 75 points.

Leading the way for the Chants again this year are the sprints and hurdles groups.

Sophomore Alexis Glasco will compete in the 60-meter hurdles, where she ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference this year with a school record time of 8.18, and in the 60-meter dash, where she is seventh overall in the Sun Belt at 7.47, and in the 200-meters which she has not run yet this season.

Joining her in the 60-meter hurdles will be Sydney Clemens (8.36) and Amanda Kinloch (8.43), who rank third and sixth overall in the Sun Belt in the hurdles event entering the championship meet.

Glasco and Clemens (7.61), along with Kayla Sweeney, who has the fourth-best time in the Sun Belt this year at 7.46, will also race in the 60-meter dash, while Sweeney is also scheduled to compete in the 200-meters where she has the seventh-best time in the conference this year at 24.17.

The Chants will be deep in the 400-meters, as Lauren Gordon (55.63), Amaryah White (56.00), Amelia Canetto (57.56), and Brianna Tillman (59.28) are all slated to compete for the Teal and Bronze. Gordon and White both rank in the top 10 in the Sun Belt this season in the event at fourth and seventh, respectively.

In the distance events, the Chants will just have one competitor in school record holder Amilia Wise-Sweat, as the sophomore is second in the SBC this season in the 800-meters with a time of 2:10.40.

In the field events, redshirt junior Kynnedy Dennis will once again compete in the pole vault event, entering the championships with the seventh-best mark in the conference of the season at 3.72 meters, while the sophomore duo of Zayna Fray-Samuel (18.02m) and Lauralyn Clifford (17.25m) will take part in the weight throw event.

Coastal's Camryn Lorick is set to compete in the high jump event, having turned in a season-best mark of 1.68 meters earlier this month which is tied for the ninth-best mark in the Sun Belt Conference, while five Chants in Nikki Boon (5.63m), Destiny St. Cyr (5.47m), Keiran Martin (5.40m), Claire Spiller (5.35m), and Mia Lewis (5.28m) will all compete in the long jump event.

Both Spiller (11.51m) and Lewis (11.19m) will compete in the triple jump event, while Boon will be busy both days as she will compete in the pentathlon.

Monday's action will start at 2:30 p.m. ET.
