Chants Dominate in Hurdles on Day One of Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Chanticleer men's and women's track & field teams opened up the outdoor season on Friday, competing in the rain and wet conditions at the 2023 Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The women's side was highlighted by three Chants qualifying for the finals of the 100-meter hurdles, while three other Chants posted top-15 place finishes on the day.
Senior Ashley Rulison finished fifth overall in the women's 5000-meters with a time of 19:30.23, while the freshmen duo of Kirsten Maybach (5.05 meters) and Naturee Thomas (4.59 meters) finished fifth and 13th overall, respectively, in the women's long jump event.
In the women's 100-meter hurdle prelims, the Chants' Amanda Kinloch (14.08 (+1.2)), Nikki Boon (14.77 (+0.7)), and Alyssa Smith (15.58 (+2.3)) placed first, second, and fifth overall to all qualify for the finals heat on Saturday.
On the men's side, the Chants recorded three top-15 place finishes in the field events and saw five others on the track qualify for the finals over two events.
Throwers Michael Martello (45.02 meters) and Killian Oberheu (37.06 meters) finished third and 11th overall, respectively, in the men's hammer throw event on Friday, while teammate Aaron Keeler placed fourth overall in the men's javelin with a new personal-best mark of 50.49 meters.
On the track, the Chants had three race their way into the 110-meter hurdles, as Braydon Bennett (14.18 (+2.4)), Jaquon Williams (14.46 (+1.0)), and Albrey Gossett (14.84 (+1.5)) placed first, second, and fourth overall in the prelims to qualify for the finals on Saturday, while freshman Deondre Hardy (10.72 (+2.4)) placed fourth in the 100-meter prelims to also reach the finals on Saturday.
