Chants & No. 19 Camels Renew Rivalry on the Diamond on Tuesday

Tuesday’s game has been moved up to 4 p.m. ET

CONWAY, S.C. – Two of the original members of the Big South Conference will renew their rivalry, as the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will host the No. 19 nationally-ranked Campbell Fighting Camels on the baseball diamond on Tuesday, March 14, at 4 p.m. ET at Springs Brooks Stadium.

• The Coastal Carolina and Campbell midweek baseball game on Tuesday, March 14, has been moved to a 4 p.m. ET start time at Springs Brooks Stadium.

ABOUT THE CHANTS
• Coastal Carolina enters the week at 9-5 overall and 9-4 at home on the year.
• In the Chants' nine wins this season, they have scored double-digit runs in eight of them and have averaged 14.1 runs over their nine wins on the year.
• As a team, the Chants are hitting .323 overall, which ranks 19th in all of NCAA Division I baseball, as eight different players are hitting over .300 on the season.
• Coastal's pitching staff has struck out 163 hitters compared to just 74 walks this season and posted an average of 11.7 strikeouts per nine innings on the year, which ranks 13th nationally.
 
ABOUT THE FIGHTING CAMELS
• Campbell enters the week at 12-2 overall and riding a four-game winning streak, including two wins at Appalachian State (March 10 & 11) last weekend.
• The Fighting Camels were voted to finish first in the 2023 Big South Preseason Coaches Poll, while Drake Pierson was named the preseason Big South Player of the Year and Cade Kuehler as the preseason Big South Pitcher of the Year.
• Campbell has been road warriors as of late, as the Camels have played each of their last seven games on the road, going 6-1 in those contests.
• Offensively, the Camels are hitting .333 overall on the team with 28 home runs, nine triples, 35 doubles, 135 RBIs, and 166 runs scored.
• Campbell's pitching staff has struck out 147 batters compared to just 77 walks, has allowed just 10 home runs, and has held their opponents to a .245 batting average on the season.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES HISTORY WITH CAMPBELL
• The Chanticleers are 37-18 overall versus Campbell on the baseball diamond, with the two teams last playing back in 2019 in Conway, S.C.
• Coastal has won each of the last five games over the Fighting Camels and seven of the last 10 matchups.
• The Chanticleers have been dominant over the Camels at home in Conway, S.C., as Coastal is 25-7 all-time on its home field versus Campbell.
• Coastal Carolina and Campbell were both charter members of the Big South Conference when the league was formed in 1983 and competed against each other as conference members from 1983-1994 and then again from 2011-16.
• As Big South Conference foes, the Chanticleers held a 25-9 overall record versus the Fighting Camels.
 
CAN'T FORGET THE CAMELS
• Coastal Carolina and Campbell were both charter members of the Big South Conference when the league was formed in 1983 and competed against each other as conference members from 1983-1994 and then again from 2011-16.
• As Big South Conference foes, the Chanticleers held a 25-9 overall record versus the Fighting Camels.
• The two schools sit atop the Big South record books for the most conference championships in baseball, with Coastal Carolina leading the way with 14 and Campbell in second with six.
 
REPRESENTING THE SUN
• Coastal Carolina will be representing the Sun Belt Conference when the Chanticleers take on Campbell on Tuesday evening.
• The Chanticleers are the third Sun Belt Conference member that Campbell has faced thus far this season, as the Fighting Camels went 2-1 in a three-game road series at Louisiana on March 3-5 and took two games on the road at Appalachian State last weekend on March 10 & 11.
 
VERSUS RANKED TEAMS
• Coastal has played two nationally-ranked top-25 teams so far this season in No. 21 NC State (Feb. 22) and No. 2/5 Wake Forest (March 7).
• The Chanticleers are 1-1 versus top 25 ranked teams this season.
• Coastal suffered a 16-5 midweek home loss to then-No. 21 NC State on Feb. 22 at Springs Brooks Stadium.
• CCU won a wild one by the score of 13-11 in a midweek home contest versus then-No. 2/5 Wake Forest on March 7 at Springs Brooks Stadium.
 
ON THE HORIZON – SUN BELT PLAY
• The Chanticleers will open up Sun Belt Conference play this weekend on the road at new member James Madison on March 17-19 in Harrisonburg, Va.
• Coastal will begin Sun Belt Conference play on the road for the sixth time in the Chants' seven years in the Sun Belt - at Texas State (2017), at Arkansas State (2018), at ULM (2019), at Louisiana (2020)*, at Louisiana (2021), and at James Madison (2023).
* season was canceled the weekend of conference play
