Chants defeated Longwood and UNCG at home on Sunday

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team continued its winning ways with not one but two victories on the courts on Sunday, as the Chanticleers defeated Longwood 5-1 in the morning session and then upended UNCG 6-1 in the afternoon to extend its winning streak to four-straight wins.

With the two wins, CCU improved to 4-4 overall on the season.

Match 1: Coastal Carolina 5, Longwood 1

Coastal opened up the day with a 5-1 win over the Longwood Lancers, extending its winning streak to three consecutive matches.

In doubles play, the home team picked up a 6-0 shutout win on court No. 2 from the team of Tatum Burger and Lilie Steryous over Maria Saez and Nina Hederich of Longwood, while the pair of Megan Hopton and Anna Babayan continued their winning ways with a 6-2 win over the Lancers' Emma Nurgazieva and Karina Rizvanova on court No. 1 to record the doubles point.

The contest on court No. 3 would go unfinished with the two teams deadlocked at 4-4.

The Chants carried over the momentum into singles play, as Hopton dominated in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Sophia Marchetta on court No. 3, while her doubles partner Babayan won easily 6-1, 6-2 over Saez on court No. 2 to put the home team in front 3-0 in the match.

Longwood kept the match alive with a three-set, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 win on court No. 4 to put the match at 3-1, only to see the Chants' Victoire De Samucewicz and Jesse Hollins post back-to-back wins on their respective courts to record the 5-1 match win.

De Samucewicz scored a 6-0, 6-4 win on court No. 1 over Nurgazieva, while Hollins also won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 over Longwood's Wiktoria Czerny on court No. 5.

The match on court No. 6 would go unfinished with CCU's Isabella Weatherhead leading 6-4, 5-4.

Match 2: Coastal Carolina 6, UNCG 1

Coastal carried over the momentum from the morning win over Longwood into its second match of the day versus UNCG, defeating the Spartans 6-1.

The Chanticleers continued to get it done in doubles action, as the home team swept the three doubles bouts to earn the point.

The duo of Hollins and De Samucewicz scored a 6-2 win on court No. 3 over Juliana Craft and McCollough Perry of UNCG, while the team of Babayan and Hopton matched their teammates with a 6-2 win over Olivia Gallagher and Hanna Giddings on court No. 1.

CCU completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win by the pair of Burger and Steryous on court No. 2.

In singles play, CCU's Hollins set the tone with a 6-1, 6-0 dominating win on court No. 6 over Ella Olexa, while Babayan breezed to a 6-3, 6-3 straight-set win over Gallagher on court No. 2 to give the Women in Teal a 3-0 match lead.

Hopton sealed the match win with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Craft on court No. 3 before Burger pushed the score out to 5-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 beat down of Luna Urso on court No. 4.

De Samucewicz capped the Chants' wins with a hard-fought 7-5, 6-1 victory on court No. 1, defeating Arina Babkova to push the lead to 6-0 in favor of the home team.

UNCG would hold off the shutout by the Chants with a third-set, 10-point tiebreaker win on court No. 5 to put the final match score at 6-1.

Coastal will remain at home to host Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday, March 7, at 10 a.m. ET.
