CCU had nine student-athletes etch their names in top-10 list
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up competition at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational on Saturday with nine different Chanticleers etching their names in CCU's all-time performance list for outdoor track & field.
Â
Â
Women's Team
Â
Four Chants in Sydney Clemens (110-meter hurdles), Amilia Wise-Sweat (800-meters), Claire Spiller (triple jump), and Mia Lewis (triple jump), as well as the 4x400-meter relay team of Clemens, Alexis Glasco, Amanda Kinloch, and Kayla Sweeney all etched their names in CCU's outdoor track & field performance list on Saturday.
Â
In the 100-meter hurdles, Glasco placed third overall in the finals heat with a time of 12.91 (2.3). Her time would have been a school record if not wind-aided (over 2.1).
Â
Glasco reached the finals with a time of 13.02 (2.4) in the preliminaries, placing third overall, while Clemens turned in a personal-best time of 13.54 (-1.0) to finish 23rd overall. Her mark was the fourth-best time in CCU's history.
Â
The tandem of Clemens and Glasco was joined by Kinloch and Sweeney in the 4x100-meter relay, finishing seventh overall with a time of 44.10. That mark is the second-fastest time in school history.
Â
Sweeney also finished 17th overall in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.32 (2.4), while staying on the track, sophomore Wise-Sweat recorded the third-fastest time in CCU history with a personal-best mark of 2:10.29 in the 800-meters.
Â
In the field events on Saturday, Camryn Lorick placed fifth overall in the high jump event with a height of 1.68 meters, while Kynnedy Dennis finished 16th in the pole vault event with a mark of 3.61 meters.
Â
Two Chants etched their names in the top 10 of the all-time performance list for the triple jump, as Spiller (11.91 meters) and Lewis (11.78 meters) both set personal records and had the eighth and 10th-best marks, respectively, in CCU's annals.
Â
Â
Men's Team
Â
On the men's side, hurdler Tyler Graves (110-meter hurdles) and sprinter Brendan Kovar (400-meters) both moved up on CCU's all-time performance list with personal-best times, while Braydon Bennett (110-meter hurdles), Chance Tressler (shot put), and Michael Martello (shot put and discus throw) all recorded top-25 place finishes.
Â
In the 110-meter hurdles prelims, Graves placed 12th overall with a time of 13.83 (1.6), the second-fastest time for the sprint hurdles event in CCU's history. Fellow Chant Bennett crossed the finish line in 16th place with a time of 13.94 (3.6), while Albrey Gossett turned in a personal-best time of 14.36 (1.1) to place 30th overall.
Â
Kovar turned in a time of 47.58 in the 400-meters, the sixth-best mark in CCU's history, while freshman Deondre Hardy recorded a personal-best time of 10.66 (-0.1) in the 100-meter dash.
Â
Coastal totaled three top-25 place finishes over two field events, as Tressler placed 16th overall in the shot put event with a personal-best mark of 13.81 meters and finished just in front of teammate Martello and his distance of 13.76 meters, good enough for 17th overall.
Â
Martello also finished 24th overall in the discus throw with a throw of 42.04 meters.
Â
The Chanticleers will return to action next weekend, Saturday, April 22, at the USC Open hosted by the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.
