MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Coastal Carolina freshman
Deondre Hardy won the silver medal in the men's long jump event, while seven other Chanticleers combined over the men's and women's teams stamped their names on CCU's all-time outdoor track & field performance list on day two of the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The men's team is in eighth place overall in the team standings, while the women's team is 10th overall after two days of competition.
The third and final day of the conference championship meet will begin tomorrow at noon ET.
Women's Team
The Coastal women's team was dominant in the sprint and hurdles events on Friday, having five different runners qualify for the finals across three events while three Chants wrote their names in CCU's all-time performance list.
Sophomore
Alexis Glasco qualified for the finals in both the 100-meter hurdles (13.26 (-1.0) and the 100-meter dash (11.48 (+0.0)), finishing first in the 100-meter hurdles prelims and second in the 100-meter prelims with a personal-best time. Her mark in the 100-meters was also the third-fastest in CCU history.
Also qualifying for the finals in the 100-meters with a personal-best time was junior
Kayla Sweeney, as she finished third overall in the prelims with a time of 11.52 (+0.4), which is the fifth-fastest time on CCU's all-time performance list.
Joining Glasco in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles on Saturday will be the CCU duo of
Sydney Clemens and
Amanda Kinloch. Clemens placed fourth overall in the prelims with a time of 13.60 (+2.2), one spot in front of Kinloch in fifth place with her time of 13.72 (-1.0). Kinloch's time was a personal best mark and the seventh-fastest time in school history.
In the 400-meters, junior
Lauren Gordon raced her way to the finals on Saturday with a time of 55.77 in the prelims, good enough for seventh overall.
Men's Team
The men's team had several strong performances on Friday, highlighted by Hardy's runner-up finish in the men's long jump with a personal-best leap of 7.26 meters, earning him second-team all-conference honors.
In addition to the second-place finish, four Chants etched their names into the school's all-time outdoor track & field performance list and qualified for the finals in their respective events.
Junior
Braydon Bennett raced to a second-place finish in the men's 110-meter hurdles preliminaries, racing across the finish line with a personal-best time of 13.84 (+1.7), which is also the third-best mark in CCU's record book.
In the men's 100-meter dash prelims, sophomore
Garrett Wilkins qualified for the finals on Saturday with a new personal-best time of 10.46 (+2.0), which was good enough for fifth place in the prelims and was the fourth-fastest time in CCU's annals.
Also etching his name in the record books was senior
Brendan Kovar, as his time of 47.43 placed him fifth overall in the 400-meter preliminaries and was also the fourth-best time in the event in CCU's history.
Sophomore
Trey Kraimer qualified for the finals in the 800-meters with his personal-best time of 1:54.25, which placed him sixth overall in the heat with the eight-best time in CCU's all-time history.
