Jones and Cionelo Lead Chants at Adidas XC Challenge

CARY, N.C. – After a strong showing at the Buccaneer Open to begin their new season, the Coastal Carolina men's and women's cross country teams continued their fall schedule at the Adidas XC Challenge in Cary, N.C.

The women's team finished fifth out of 17 competing schools in the 5k event, with an average finish time of 18:33.

Individually, senior Molly Jones topped the leaderboard for the Chants, coming in seventh with a time of 17:29.4.

Also competing for CCU, juniors Ellie Wolski and Amilia Wise-Sweat came in 13^th and 50^th with times of 17:39.3 and 19:05.7, respectively. Freshmen Erin McQuitty, Mary Kathryn Huddleston, and Olivia Goeser made their mark by finishing 54^th, 57^th, and 88^th with times of 19:11.0, 19:21.6, and 20:36.6, respectively.

On the men's side, the Chants came in sixth with an average time of 19:19.

New Mexico transfer Nehemiah Cionelo led the Chants by taking 35^th in the 6k event, crossing the finish line at 19:08.9.

Freshman Adam Groves continued his strong start to his CCU career, placing 41^st with a 19:18.7 time.

Rounding out the leaderboard for Coastal, juniors Ethan Blackwelder, Trey Kraimer, George Werner Jr., and Jack Benoit finished 43^rd, 50^th, 80^th, and 93^rd with times of 19:19.5, 19:28.7, 20:22.2, and 20:50.9. Freshman Sterling Sellier also finished 47^th with a time of 19:22.3.

On deck for the Chants is the Chanticleer Challenge in Conway, S.C., at the Hackler Golf Course on Friday, Sept. 29.
