Women’s Soccer Shutout by UNCG

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team was dealt with a 3-0 shutout by the UNC Greensboro Spartans on Thursday night in Greensboro, N.C.

With the loss, the Chanticleers drop to 2-4 on the season while UNCG advances to 3-3-1.

UNCG was first to strike when Bailey Gourdine slotted a pass to the feet of Caroline Wood, who laced the ball into the bottom left corner to put the Spartans up 1-0 after just 6 minutes of action.

The Spartans extended their lead in the 14th minute after a loose ball fell to the boot of Dalani Stephens, who blasted the ball through the gloves of Coastal keeper Vivienne Carr from the edge of the box to make the score 2-0.

The Chants looked to rally back when Rami Rapp took Coastal's first shot of the night in the 15th minute but it was not enough to challenge the UNCG keeper.

The Spartans took five more shots and had four corners before play was halted in the 41st minute for a lightning delay.

UNCG outshot the Chants 11-1 and led 9-5 in fouls during the first period.

The goals kept coming for the Spartans in the second frame when Taylor Mentzer belted the ball into the top left corner off an assist from Ryen Ortiz to put UNCG up 3-0 with 36 minutes left to play.

The Spartans looked to continue the onslaught in the 56th minute when Nadia Wilson shook the crossbar with a short-range attempt but the Chants were able to hold the deficit to 3-0.

Lou Martinet looked to tally one goal back in the 88th minute when she took Coastal's second shot of the night on a freekick attempt but the ball trailed off frame to give the Spartans the victory.

The Chanticleers will return to the CCU Soccer Stadium for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff versus the Stetson Hatters on Sept. 10.
