Track and Field Set for First Event of the New Year at Gamecock Opener

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's track and field team is set for its first meet of the new year, and its second of the indoor season, as preparation begins for the annual Gamecock Indoor Opener in Columbia, S.C., hosted by South Carolina University.
Prior to the turn of the calendar, the Chants competed in the Liberty Kickoff in Lynchburg, Va. in a preview to the 2024 indoor season. CCU featured five athletes in the first and second groups of the women's pentathlon, with freshman Ebba Hedberg and fifth-year senior Meg Goebel finishing second and fourth in Group A, and freshmen Grace Howard and Brooke Fung Chung, as well as sophomore Mia Lewis securing the second, fourth and eighth positions, respectively, in Group B.
Goebel and Heberg are returning to the lineup for this weekend's meet, along with 28 other CCU student-athletes, including cross country standout Amilia Wise-Sweat, who was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference Third Team for her performance during the 2023 fall cross country season back in early November.
The Gamecock Opener from Columbia, S.C. begins tomorrow morning at 9 A.M. ET, starting with the men's and women's high jump, and concludes with the women's 4x400m at 7:45 P.M. ET.
