Chants Remain on Road to Take on Georgia Southern

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team will remain on the road to take on the Georgia Southern Eagles in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series on March 28-30 in Statesboro, Ga.
 
LAST TIME OUT
 The Chants suffered a series sweep to the No. 21/23 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns.
  • Delaney Keith went 3-for-4 at the plate in game one, hitting back-to-back home runs during her first two at-bats. The feat makes her one of six players in the nation to have hit consecutive home runs this season.
  • Maddy Jennings smashed her sixth home run of the season and was the only Chant to record a hit in each game versus Louisiana.
  • Iyanla De Jesus broke up the Louisiana no-hitter bid during game three and Georgia Hood drove in CCU's lone run on a sacrifice fly.
 SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
  • Georgia Southern has a 19-11 record overall and is 3-3 in Sun Belt Conference play.
  • The Eagles will look to improve on their 16-3 home record.
  • Outfielder Emma Davis leads the team with a .367 batting average.
  • Right-handed pitcher Anslie Pettit leads the team with a 9-4 record and a 1.46 ERA. Pettit also ranks fifth in the nation with a 11.86 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
  • Outfielder Jess Mazur leads the team in home runs (6) and RBIs (22).
  • The Eagles are coming off a 2-1 series win against Georgia State.
  • Georgia Southern has struggled to get its offense firing as it places last in the conference in runs, hits, doubles, and total bases.
 HISTORY AGAINST
  • The Chants have a 19-15 all-time record against GS.
  • CCU swept the last series at home and shut out the Eagles in two of the games.
  • Coastal averages 3.88 runs per game versus Georgia Southern.
  • The Chants have run-ruled the Eagles three times and have delivered five shutout victories.
  • CCU has outscored Georgia Southern 38-34 over the last 10 encounters.
  • The first meeting came in April 1995 with the Chants winning 5-0.
