CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team broke open a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning to down the Appalachian State Mountaineers 2-0 at St. John Stadium on Saturday.
With the win, Coastal leveled the series at one game apiece and improved to 26-17 and 6-8 SBC.
It was a pitching duel in the opening four innings with CCU's
Nicolette Picone giving up one hit while App State's Sejal Neas allowed two hits and two strikeouts to keep the score at 0-0.
The Mountaineers put pressure on Coastal in the top of the fifth inning after putting runners on first and third base on a CCU fielding miscue and a single. However, the Chants secured the final out to hold the score at 0-0.
CCU found a way to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning when
Delaney Keith and
Riley Zana ripped back-to-back RBI doubles to give the Chants a 2-0 victory.
Picone pitched a complete game shutout to pick up her fifth win in the circle, striking out three batters in the outing.
The Chanticleers will be back in action for the series-deciding matchup tomorrow at noon ET.
