MIAMI – Despite a strong showing in the first set Friday night, Coastal Carolina could not sustain the momentum as FIU recorded a 3-1 (25-22, 12-25, 24-26, 20-25) non-conference victory inside the Ocean Bank Convocation Center. One night after hitting a season-low .108, the Panthers forced the Chanticleers into a miserable .092 hitting percentage.
With their second straight loss, the Chanticleers fall to 7-4 overall, while the Panthers improved to 6-5.
Junior
Jalyn Stout posted her 38th career triple-double, tying the NCAA record, with 13 kills, 11 assists, and 20 digs.
Ava Wallis recorded a double-double with 18 assists and 11 digs.
Bailee Earnhardt accumulated double-digit digs, finishing with 12. Courtney O'Brien paced FIU with 11 kills while Mandi Morioka had 22 digs.
The stat sheet proved to be pretty even for the most part as the Panthers held a slight 46-42 advantage in kills while the Chanticleers ended up with a 62-61 edge in digs and 8-7 advantage in blocks. FIU racked up 13 service aces and compiled a .204 hitting percentage.
QUICK SET SYNOPSIS
• Wallis served five consecutive points to turn a one-point deficit into a four-point lead, 7-3, and put the Chants ahead to stay in a 25-22 first set win. The Panthers pulled within a point four times, lastly at 19-18, but Coastal closed the set on a 6-2 with two kills from
Emma Van Elslande and a set-winner from Kibi Jae' Huggins.
• FIU dominated the second set with a 25-12 victory. The Panthers got out to a 13-5 advantage and doubled the Chants, 20-10. Coastal hit –0.071 in the set with six errors and four kills.
• The third set went to extra points with FIU emerging with the 26-24 victory to take a 2-1 lead in the match. CCU built a 10-5 lead before the Panthers tied it at 18-all and took a 20-19 lead. Stout tied the game at 24-all, then FIU's Sofie Vogel recorded a kill before a CCU error gave the Panthers the set.
• The Panthers ended the match on an 11-1 run, which included 10 consecutive points, in the fourth set to erase the Chants' five-point advantage and take a 24-19 lead. Courtney O'Brien recorded three service aces during the spurt that ended with a FIU 25-20 win.
NOTES & STATS
• Stout collected 20 digs for the second time in her career. She had 25 at South Alabama last season. She finished the night with exactly 900 career kills. She also recorded a season-high three service aces.
• Wallis recorded her sixth double-double of the season and fourth in the last five matches.
• The Chants fell to 2-2 in true road games this season and 1-2 all-time against FIU.

The Chanticleers head to Huntington, W.Va., to open Sun Belt Conference play next weekend, Sept. 26-27, against Marshall. Friday's match is scheduled for 6 p.m., and Saturday's match has a 1 p.m. start time. ESPN+ will stream both matches.
