Chants Set to Open Indoor T&F Season at the Gamecock Opener on Saturday

Chanticleers will compete in the one-day event in Columbia

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's indoor track & field team will start its 2021 indoor season this Saturday, Jan. 16, at the Gamecock Opener hosted by the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.

The Chanticleers, who had their 2020 spring season canceled before it even got started, last competed at the 2020 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships last February.

Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Sandy Fowler and her staff will have a mix of both returners and newcomers compete for the Teal and Bronze this weekend in the season-opening meet led by 2020 Sun Belt Indoor Track & Field Newcomer and Freshman of the Year Melissa Jefferson.

Fellow returners Katie Bond, Nikki Boon, Grace Forren, Kacy Lombard, and Jaquoia Williams will be competing in several different field events while joining Jefferson on the track will be Kadasia Evans, Madison Jones, Kelsia Moore, Erin Palmer, and Tariney Pepper.

Along with the 11 returners, the Chants will have many new faces make their CCU debuts, as 20 freshmen will lace up the spikes at the Gamecock Opener on Saturday.

The meet is set to start at 11 a.m. ET and will got through 5 p.m. ET at the Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex. No spectators will be allowed in the building per COVID-19 regulations. However, fans can follow the live results by CLICKING HERE.
