Men's Golf Under Par in Second Round at Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate

Seth Taylor cards a three-under 69 in the second round

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – The Coastal Carolina University men's golf team shaved eight strokes off their first-round score with a four-under 284 in Monday's second round of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. CCU will enter Tuesday's final round with an even-par 576 (292-284).

It was a tale of two nines for CCU as the Chants, teeing off on hole 10, managed four birdies and an eagle on the tough back nine. That all changed when the Chants made the turn and ran off 12 birdies in changing the fortunes of the second round.

Seth Taylor led the charge with a three-under 69. He had three birdies and 15 pars on the way to his score. He enters the final round three-under (72-69) and is in a tie for 19th place.

Freshman Trey Crenshaw was also under-par in today's round, finishing with a two-under 70. He had four birdies on the day and only had two bogey spots on his scorecard. He had eight pars and a bogey on his first nine holes, but like the other Chants, had a tremendous second nine. He had all four of his birdies on the first five holes including consecutive birdies on holes three, four, and five. He has a one-under 143 (73-70) for the tournament and is tied for 32nd.

Luke Nelson was able to shave seven strokes off his first-round score to shoot an even-par 72 in today's action. Nelson had three birdies in the round, but also added the Chants' first eagle of the tournament on the par-five 14th. His score today places him with a seven-over 151 (79-72) and in a tie for 81st heading into Tuesday's final round.

Tied with Nelson with a seven-over 151 (78-73) is Garrett Cooper who shot a one-over 73 in today's round. He had three birdies and four bogeys on the day, finishing strong with birdies on two of his final three holes.

Gavin Noble also had three birdies on his scorecard but could only manage a five-over 77 in today's action. He sits at two-over 146 (69-77) after two rounds and is tied for 56th.

Junior Viktor Olund continued his impressive season debut for the Chants. Playing as an individual, the junior carded an even-par 72 in today's action. Like Crenshaw, he also had four birdies on the day and stands four-over with a 148 (76-72) after the first two rounds. He enters tomorrow tied for 67th.

Host East Tennessee State had the day's top round with a 13-under score. The Bucs now lead the event with a 24-under 552. Louisville, also having a strong day shooting an 11-under, stands second at 22-under 554. Completing the top five are Charlotte (-18, 558), College of Charleston (-12, 564), and Maryland (-11, 565) who made the largest jump of the day, up six spots, after shooting a 10-under for the round.

Fellow Sun Belt Conference member Georgia Southern and Virginia Tech lead the second group of five at 10-under 566. Penn State had the second-best round of the day with a 12-under and moved up five spots and into a tie for eighth with North Carolina State at nine-under 567. UAB holds down the 10th spot with an eight-under 568.

Furman (-7, 569) and Chattanooga (-4, 572) are in front of CCU's even-par 576, with Augusta (+10, 586) and Villanova (+22, 598) rounding out the field.
