Volleyball Returns Home to Host Georgia Southern and Georgia State

Coastal Carolina will look to get back on track at home this weekend

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's volleyball team (15-7, 9-3 SBC) returns home this weekend to the HTC Center to host both the Georgia Southern Eagles (13-9, 6-6 SBC) and the Georgia State Panthers (6-16, 3-9 SBC) in two pivotal Sun Belt East Division matches. Both matches will be video streamed live on ESPN+.

Face coverings WILL BE required for admission to all indoor Coastal Carolina home athletic events for 2021-22. Coastal Carolina University and the Department of Athletics are committed to providing a safe environment for the enjoyment of our patrons that attend our home intercollegiate athletic events. Individuals that disregard health and safety protocols may be asked to leave.

vs. Georgia Southern, Friday, Nov. 5 - 6 p.m. ET (ESPN+)
vs. Georgia State, Sunday, Nov. 7 - noon ET (ESPN+)
 
SERIES HISTORY VERSUS GEORGIA SOUTHERN & GEORGIA STATE
The Chanticleers are 21-2 all-time versus the Georgia Southern Eagles and 16-3 all-time versus Georgia State. Coastal has not lost to either team since joining the league in 2016.
 
TAKE TWO VERSUS THE PEACH STATE SCHOOLS
The Chanticleers will be taking on the Eagles and Panthers for the second time this season, having played both of the schools at their places to start the month of October.
 
CCU defeated Georgia Southern 3-1 in Statesboro, Ga., on Friday night, Oct. 1, and then held off Georgia State for a 3-2 win on Saturday, Oct. 2.
 
SERIES STREAKS ON THE LINE
The Chanticleers will put a series of streaks on the line this weekend as they welcome Georgia Southern (Nov. 5) and Georgia State (Nov. 7) to the HTC Center.

LAST TIME OUT
The Chanticleers struggled on the road last time out, as CCU fell on the road at both Troy (3-1) and South (Alabama).
 
The two losses marked the first time that the Chanticleers had lost back-to-back conference matches since falling to Texas State and UT Arlington on Oct. 25 and 27 in 2019.

SUN BELT STREAK SNAPPED
The Chants' had their Sun Belt Conference winning streak snapped at 28-straight wins with the 3-0 loss at Texas State (Oct. 22) two weeks ago in San Marcos, Texas.
 
CCU had won every SBC regular-season match dating all the way back to the 2019 season, when the Chants last lost on Nov. 2, 2019, at Troy.
 
Since that loss, the Chanticleers have dropped two of their last three Sun Belt Conference matches, falling last weekend at Troy (Oct. 29) and South Alabama (Oct. 31).
 
HOME COURT DOMINANCE
Coastal has been dominant at home inside the HTC Center this season, as the Chants are on a 10-match home winning streak and are 10-1 at home at the HTC Center this season.
 
Since joining the Sun Belt in 2016, the Chants have gone 47-7 at home inside the HTC Center.

TOPS IN SBC
The Chanticleers come into the weekend as the best serving team and blocking team in the Sun Belt Conference. CCU leads the SBC and ranks 46th nationally in service aces per set at 1.68 and also leads the league and ranks 26th overall in all of NCAA D1 volleyball with a blocks per set average of 2.58 on the season.
 
CCU also ranks second in the Sun Belt in hitting percentage on the season at .239 and third in both total team blocks 206.5 and opponent hitting percentage at .165.
 
PETRENKO = ACE
Junior setter Brigitta Petrenko has been on point behind the service line again this season, as she leads the conference in both service aces (39) and services aces per set (0.49), which both rank 17th nationally.

CHASING 1000
The Chants' Cheyenne Jones has picked up 182 kills this season at CCU and combined with her 774 total kills at UTEP from 2017-21, she now has 956 career kills over her collegiate career.
 
NOT OUT OF CONTENTION YET
Despite being behind the South Alabama Jaguars (12-1) in the Sun Belt East Division regular-season standings by two and a half games, the Chants are not out of contention for the division crown just yet, as CCU has four remaining SBC matches this season.
 
South Alabama has three remaining SBC matches left this season with a home contest versus Troy and road matches at both Georgia State and Georgia Southern.
