MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - On the final day of the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge at Doug Shaw Stadium, the Coastal Carolina men's track and field finished in second place with 122 team points.
The Chanticleers earned wins in the 110-meter hurdles, the triple jump, and the 4x100 relay race. The team also broke a meet record to go along with six other top-five finishes on the day.
After qualifying four Coastal hurdlers into the finals of the 110-meter hurdles on Friday, CCU's Tyler Graves and Braydon Bennett finished in first and second place, respectively, in Saturday's final. Graves finished with a time of 14.12 (3.3), and Bennett crossed the finish line at 14.29 (3.3), both of which qualify for two of the top-10 fastest times in school history.
Rounding out the 110-meter hurdle race, sophomore Jaquon Williams finished in fifth-place with a time of 14.76 (3.3), and sophomore Albrey Gossett finished in seventh-place with a time of 15.12 (3.3).
Sophomore Dallas Wise earned his team 10 points as he picked up his first career win in the triple jump as he broke the meet record was just shy of the school record with a mark of 15.37 (2.1) meters. The Irmo, S.C., native bested the previous record set by Ron Buchanan of NC A&T in 2008 of 15.30 meters.
Junior David Ejumeta also competed in the triple jump event and finished in fourth place with a jump of 14.23 meters.
The foursome of Bennett, DeVonte Harris, Ty Floyd, and Ejumeta earned 10 team points as they took first place in the 4x100 relay race with a time of 41.19.
In the 200 meters, Harris and Floyd finished virtually the same time, but the freshman Harris got the nod and finished with a third-place time of 21.66 (1.5) as a result of less wind assistance to Floyd's fourth-place 21.66 (2.4) time.
Also, in the 200 meters, Gossett finished in 21st-place with a time of 22.95 (2.5), and Williams finished in 22nd-place with a time of 23.00 (3.2).
3000-meter runner Monroe Thompkins earned eight team points in the event as he finished in second place and a time of 9:04.76. Teammate Doug Mullen finished in the 13th-position with a time of 10.14.00.
