Coastal is coming off last weekend’s Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational with seven event wins
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina track and field team will be in action this weekend at the Cregger Track in Columbia, S.C. for the Weems Baskin Invitational, hosted by the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Men
Last weekend, sophomore Dallas Wise earned a first-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 7.38 meters (3.0), his third first-place in three different events in the young season. The Irmo, S.C., native capped off his weekend in the high jump, where he placed in third place with a height of 2.03 meters.
In the 110-meter hurdles, sophomore Braydon Bennett and sophomore Jaquon Williams finished first and third, respectively. Bennett achieved a personal-best time of 13.92 (3.5). Williams also eclipsed his previous best and set a new personal-best in the event with a time of 14.58 (3.5).
The 4x100 team of freshmen Kaden Turner, DeVonte Harris, senior Ty Floyd, and Bennett picked up a first-place result as they tied for the fourth-fastest time in school history (40.27).
Chanticleer 400-meter sprinter Jeremiah Talbert earned his first-career first-place in the hurdles event.
Women
Sophomore Melissa Jefferson shined in her two event finals, the 100 and 200 meters, last weekend at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational.
The sophomore picked up first place in the 100 meters with the fastest time in school history of 11.41 (1.8). Freshmen Jermaisha Arnold (11.74 (1.8)), Kayla Sweeney (11. 96 (1.8)), and Keniah Wallace (12.08 (1.8)) finished behind Jefferson in second, fourth, sixth place, respectively.
Jefferson closed out the two-day meet in the 200 meters with her second first-place finish with a time of 23.95 (2.2). For the second race in a row, Arnold finished in second place with a time of 24.01 (2.2). Both individual times are top-10 in school history.
The 4x200-relay team of Tariney Pepper, Amaryah White, Mycal Bowser, and Lauren Gordon finished with ten team points as the foursome finished three seconds ahead of the second-place team Wofford for first-place with a time of 1:40.96.
Sophomore Kadasia Evans earned the top collegiate result during the Alan Connie high jump competition behind a professional and Olympic hopeful from Romania.
Evans finished in second place behind unattached jumper, Beatrice Puiu's height of 1.73 meters, with a height of 1.68 meters of her own, the eighth-best mark in school history.
The Weems Baskin gets underway on Friday at 10 a.m. and will run through Saturday afternoon.
