Box Score HIGH POINT, N.C. – The No. 25 nationally-ranked Coastal Carolina men's soccer team went on the road for the first time in the 2021 season and fell short in a 1-0 loss at No. 24 High Point.
It was a match that was evenly played by the two top-25 ranked teams, as an MD Myers goal in the 13th minute of the match was enough to lead the Panthers to the one-goal win. The pass to Myers came on a double-assist from Lalas Ayertay and Davis Biggerstaff.
Both teams were able to get off a lot of shots in the match with the Panthers taking 18 shots (nine on goal) and the Chanticleers firing off 17 (five on goal).
CCU's
Alvaro Garcia-Pasqual had a match-high eight shots with two of those on goal. One of those shots just missed giving the Chants the early lead in the first half when his shot bounced off the crossbar.
Marcello Jones had three shots for the Chants while
Dimitris Moraitakis added two. Jones, Garcia-Pasqual, and
Lucio Berron each added two shots on goal.
The goalies for both teams were the stars in the contest as CCU freshman
Joey Batrouni came up with eight saves while HPU's junior Holden Trent finished with five.
It will not get any easier as the Chants will travel to Huntingdon, W.Va., to face top-ranked and defending national champion Marshall on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 1 p.m. ET.
