Jones placed 21st overall in the women’s 6k
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Coastal Carolina's Molly Jones once again highlighted the Chanticleers' performance at the 2022 NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championship on Friday, Nov. 11, as the junior placed 21st overall to earn NCAA Southeast All-Region honors. The meet was hosted by the University of Louisville at the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.
The 2022 Sun Belt Conference Women's Cross Country Individual Champion recorded a time of 20:39.9 to finish 21st overall. She was not only the top finisher for the Chants' team but also the top performer for the entire Sun Belt Conference.
With her top-25 finish, Jones earned all-region accolades, the first Chanticleer women's cross country runner to accomplish that feat since three Chants in 2016 in Annie Bothma, Kayla van Graan, and Aynslee van Graan.
As a team, the Coastal women's cross country team finished 25th place overall with a total of 691 points.
NC State won the women's team title with 25 points, while North Carolina (76 points), Virginia (109), Furman (133), and Duke (188) rounded out the top five on the team leaderboard.
CCU's Kylee Denver placed 147th overall with her 6k time of 23:09.5, while just nine spots behind her was fellow Chant Amilia Wise-Sweat in 156th place with her time of 23:18.6.
Also scoring for the women's team on Friday at the regional championship meet was senior Ashley Rulison, who finished 189th with her time of 24:19.0, transfer Tiarra Smith, who placed 212nd with a time of 25:12.1, and freshman Ella Lehmann and her time of 25:30.6, placing her 219th overall.
In the men's 10k event, sophomore Ethan Blackwelder crossed the finish line with a time of 34:23.9 to place 186th overall, while despite being under the weather, both Tomas Duncan and Hunter White gave it a go but were unable to finish the race.
The men's team, which had only three runners compete due to illness, did not qualify for the team results.
