HARRISONBURG, Va. — Coastal Carolina closes out the regular season Friday night with an 8 p.m. match-up at James Madison inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Chanticleers (18-12, 10-7 Sun Be;t) enter the final weekend riding a two-game winning streak and seeking their third consecutive victory overall and fourth straight road win. Coastal is currently tied for fifth place in the Sun Belt Conference standings and sits just one game out of first place, leaving multiple potential seeding outcomes entering the final day of the regular season.
James Madison (17-13, 9-8 Sun Belt) sits in eighth place in the league standings after being picked as the preseason favorite. The Dukes have won six consecutive games and can still climb in the standings with a strong finish. Coastal, meanwhile, continues its push for improved seeding and carries momentum after a 76-71 win at Georgia State on Tuesday.
The Chanticleers' recent stretch has been defined by close finishes. Each of their last eight games has been decided by five points or fewer, with Coastal posting a 5-3 mark in those contests. In Tuesday's victory,
AJ Dancler matched his career high with 32 points, including four free throws in the final 14 seconds to secure the win. Coastal committed just six turnovers and won the rebounding battle 41-36.
Friday's contest marks the second meeting between the teams in nine days. James Madison edged Coastal 67-65 in Conway on Feb. 18.
Joshua Beadle scored a game-high 31 points in the loss as the Chanticleers rallied from an eight-point second-half deficit before the Dukes closed on a 15-8 run to seal the victory in the final seconds.
JMU has won all eight meetings in the all-time series, including a 4-0 mark in Harrisonburg. The Dukes are averaging 73.6 points per game in Sun Belt play while shooting 46.2 percent from the field against conference opponents. Justin McBride (15.6 ppg), Cliff Davis (15.0 ppg) and Bradley Douglas (11.8 ppg) pace the offense, with Davis ranking among the league leaders in 3-point accuracy at 38.5 percent.
Coastal's consistency in its starting lineup — Beadle, Dancler,
Rasheed Jones,
Reggie Hill and
Nadjrick Peat have started 28 consecutive games together — has provided stability during the late-season push. The Chanticleers have also won eight straight games when scoring 70 or more points since early January.
