Men’s Golf in Seventh After 18 Holes of Play at 2021 Sun Belt Championship

Coastal Carolina is just eight strokes out of third place
EL DORADO, Ark. – The Coastal Carolina men's golf team carded a first-round team score of 306, +18, on day one of the 2021 Sun Belt Men's Golf Championship on Sunday at the Mystic Creek Golf Club in El Dorado, Ark.
On a very long and challenging golf course that saw just five golfers overall shoot even par or better on the day, fifth-year senior Zack Taylor paced the Chants with an opening-round 75, +3, to put himself in a tie for 13th overall. Taylor carded two birdies, both on the front nine, to go along with two bogeys, a double bogey, and 12 pars on the day.
Taylor had what appeared to be an eagle on the par-5, hole No. 15, as his third shot hit inside the cup from 120 yards out but jumped out and bounded close to 70 yards away from the hole and into the rough.
The next three Chants were Seth Taylor with a 76, +4, States Fort with a 77, +5, and Tyler Gray with a 78, +6, while Gavin Noble finished round one with a round of 80, +8.
Seth Taylor totaled two birdies on the day and finished his round strong with five consecutive pars after shooting +4 over the first 13 holes to place in a tie for 19th at the end of day one.
Fort overcame a horrendous start that saw him +4 after the first three holes to card three birdies and an even 36 on the back nine to end the day tied for 25th overall, while Gray had an up-and-down round that saw him post two birdies, a double bogey, three bogeys, and three pars on the front nine before turning seven pars on the back nine to place in a tie for 32nd after one round of play.
Noble's round of 80 was highlighted by an eight on the par-4, No. 2, and three birdies over his final five holes on the front nine. The sophomore is tied for 40th overall heading into the second round of action on Monday.
No. 43-nationally-ranked Georgia Southern leads the field after 18 holes of play with a 293, +5, while ULM (295, +7) and Little Rock (298, +10) round out the top three.
The second round of play is scheduled to start on Monday at 9:30 a.m. ET.
All three rounds of stroke play, along with Wednesday's semifinal and championship matches, will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and live scored via Golfstat (HERE).
