MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Chanticleer men's and women's track & field teams combined to post 35 top-10 finishes on day two of the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge on Saturday, highlighted by first-place finishes by
Camryn Lorick in the high jump,
Kynnedy Dennis in the pole vault,
Amanda Kinloch in the 100-meter hurdles,
Alyssa Smith in the 400-meter hurdles,
Amilia Wise-Sweat in the 1500-meters,
Braydon Bennett in the 110-meter hurdles,
Robert Johnson in the 400-meters,
AJ McKay Jr. in the triple jump, and both the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay teams.
Women's Team
On the women's side, the Chanticleers finished first in the team standings with 126 points, led by six first-place wins and 17 total top-10 finishes overall.
On the track, the Chanticleers scored wins in the 100-meter hurdles from Kinloch with her time of 13:82 (+0.9), in the 400-meter hurdles from Smith with her finals time of 1:05.16, in the 1500-meters by Wise-Sweat and her time of 4:41.61, and in the 4x400-meter relay, as
Nikki Boon,
Destiny St. Cyr,
Sydney Clemens, and Kinloch crossed the finish line in first place with their time of 4:04.67.
Kinloch's 100-meter hurdles time of 13.82 (+0.9) was the ninth-best mark in school history.
They didn't stop there, as the Chants also posted wins in two field events, as Dennis won the women's pole vault event with a height of 3.60 meters, while fellow Chant Lorick took first place in the women's high jump event with a mark of 1.70 meters, a new personal-best height and the seventh-best mark in CCU history.
In the 200-meters, three Chants placed in the top-10 overall, as Clemens (25.36 (-1.7)) finished third, Kinloch (25.68 (-1.7)) placed fourth, and
Brianna Tillman (25.95 (-1.7)) finished in eighth overall. Tillman also recorded a runner-up finish in the women's 400-meters with her time of 1:00.09.
Boon crossed the finish line in second place in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 14.61 (+0.9), while two Chants finished back-to-back in the 800-meters, as
Amelia Canetto (2:21.87) and
Lauren Gordon (2:21.99) finished fifth and sixth overall.
CCU posted a pair of top-three finishes in the women's triple jump event, as
Mia Lewis placed second overall with her mark of 11.57 meters, placing one spot in front of teammate
Claire Spiller and her distance of 11.49 meters.
Freshman
Olivia Lee finished ninth overall in the women's pole vault event with a height of 2.75 meters, while in the women's high jump event,
Kadasia Evans finished second overall behind Lorick with a mark of 1.61 meters.
Men's Team
On the men's side, the Chants totaled 18 top-10 finishes, highlighted by wins in the 110-meter hurdles, 400-meters, triple jump, and the 4x400-meter relay, to finish second overall in the team standings with 116 points.
Behind Bennett's first-place finish with a time of 14.04 (+1.2) in the 110-meter hurdles was two Chants in
Jaquon Williams (14.26 (+1.2)) and
Albrey Gossett (14.59 (+1.2)), who placed second and fourth overall, respectively.
Just like in the 110-meter hurdles, the Chants placed three in the top-10 in the 400-meters, as Johnson took first place with a time of 48.85, while
Brendan Kovar (49.34) and
Adrian Nwakalor (52.17) finished third and seventh overall, respectively.
CCU newcomer
Deondre Hardy earned a third-place finish in the men's 100-meter finals with a time of 11.08 (-1.5), while in the 200-meters, two Chants finished in the top 10 as Gossett placed fifth with a personal-best time of 22.36 and
Reggie Barlow finished 10th with his time of 22.65.
Two Chants also posted top-10 showings in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase, as
Ethan Blackwelder crossed the finish line in fifth place with a personal-best time of 9:54.52, while
George Werner Jr. finished 10th overall with his time of 10:24.95.
McKay Jr. won the men's triple jump event with a distance of 15.08 meters (-1.4), which was the second-best mark in CCU history, while in the men's high jump event, Nwakalor placed third overall with a mark of 1.88 meters.
CCU posted two top-10 finishes in the men's discus, as
Major Chestnut placed second overall with his mark of 43.72 meters, while
Michael Martello finished in sixth with his best throw of 41.96 meters.
Martello added a second-place finish in the men's shot put event with a new personal-best mark of 15.20 meters, which is also the seventh-best mark in CCU history, while fellow thrower
Chance Tressler placed fifth with his mark of 13.78 meters, also a new personal best.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Hardy, Gossett, Barlow, and Johnson wrapped up the meet with a first-place time of 3:21.87.
The Chanticleers will return to action next weekend at the
Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational on March 16-18 at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
