COLUMBIA, S.C. – After posting nine top-10 finishes combined on the men's and women's sides on day one of Weems Baskin Relays on Friday, the Coastal Carolina men's and women's track & field teams added 19 top-10 finishes on Saturday on the final day of the two-day meet hosted by the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.
Both the men's and women's track & field teams have a week off before returning to action at the Duke Invitational on April 6-8 in Durham, N.C.
Women's Team
Highlighted by a first-place finish from
Camryn Lorick (high jump) and four runner-up finishes from
Alexis Glasco (100-meter hurdles),
Kayla Sweeney (200-meters),
Molly Jones (1500-meters), and the 4x100-meter relay team, the women's team totaled 13 top-10 finishes on the final day of the Weems Baskin Relays on Saturday.
Lorick posted the lone win for the Chants' women's team on Saturday with a first-place finish in the women's high jump invite with a personal-best mark of 1.75 meters, which is also the second-best mark in school history.
Sweeney posted not just one nor two top-10 finishes on Saturday, but rather she recorded three top-five finishes on the day. The junior was second in the 200-meters with a personal-best time of 23.79 (+1.5), which is also the sixth-fastest time in CCU history, and finished third in the 100-meter dash invite with a time of 11.69 (+1.2). Sweeney was also the final leg of the 4x100-meter relay team that finished runner-up with a time of 44.92.
Along with Sweeney, CCU's Glasco,
Sydney Clemens, and
Amanda Kinloch were part of the 4x100-meter relay team that finished second overall, giving each one of the sprinters two top-10 finishes on the day.
Glasco also finished runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles with her time of 13.38 (+1.0), while Clemens placed fourth overall with a time of 13.70 (+1.0) and Kinloch finished eighth with her finals time of 13.87 (+1.0).
CCU's Jones and
Ellie Wolski finished second and third overall in the women's 1500-meter invite with times of 4:36.75 and 4:37.05, respectively, while fellow distance runner
Amilia Wise-Sweat placed third in the women's 800-meter invite with her time of 2:14.44.
The Chants had two student-athletes post top-five finishes in the triple jump event, as freshmen
Claire Spiller (11.70m) and
Mia Lewis (11.69m) finished third and fourth, respectively, with personal best marks, while in the women's high jump invite, senior
Kadasia Evans placed fifth with her height of 1.50 meters.
Men's Team
Led by
Tyler Graves and his win in the 400-meter hurdles and third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, the Chanticleer men's team totaled six top-10 individual finishes on Saturday in Columbia, S.C.
Graves picked up the win in the 400-meter hurdles with his time of 53.15 and led a trio of Chants to top-10 finishes in the 110-meter hurdles with his third-place time of 14.00 (+1.1).
Behind Graves in the 110-meter hurdles were teammates
Jaquon Williams (14.57 (-0.6)) and
Albrey Gossett (14.68 (-0.6)), who finished ninth and 10th overall, respectively.
Freshman
AJ McKay Jr. recorded a fifth-place finish in the men's triple jump event with a distance of 14.80 meters (-1.3), while sophomore
Tomas Duncan crossed the finish line with a personal-best time of 4:07.44 in the men's 1500-meter run to place 10th overall.
