Chants Sweep Delaware State To Open Wildcat Classic

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Coastal Carolina opened the Wildcat Classic with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-14) sweep of Delaware State on Friday at Davidson College's Belk Arena in their first meeting between the programs.
 
With the win, Coastal improved to 2-2 overall, while DSU fell to 3-1.
 
Junior Jalyn Stout posted her third consecutive double-double, finishing with 17 assists and 16 digs. Anzley Rinard posted her first double-digit kill match as a Chanticleer, collecting 12.

Ava Wallis distributed 10 assists.
 
The Chants hit .410 and held the Hornets to a .146 hitting percentage, forcing 15 attack errors in a match that lasted just 1:20. 

SET RECAP 
• Emily Fowler's kill gave the Chants a 4-3 lead, which they didn't relinquish, cruising to a 25-18 set one victory. CCU stretched its lead to 9-5, but the Hornets got back within a point at 11-10. Rinard tallied three kills as part of an 11-4 run that pushed the Chants out to a 22-14 advantage. 
• Coastal scored three consecutive points three times and scored four in a row near the end of the second set to take a 2-0 lead with a 25-15 triumph. The Chants converted 12-of-21 attempts during the frame with Fowler landing 3-of-3 attempts and Rinard 4-of-6, each without an error. 
• Rinard scored the first point of the third set, and the Chants led wire-to-wire en route to a 25-14 victory. Coastal recorded runs of 3-0, 4-0, 3-0 to build an 18-8 lead capped by Stout's sixth kill of the match.
 
NOTES & STATS 
• Stout has recorded 13 straight double-doubles dating back to Oct. 29 of last season against College of Charleston. 
• Rinard posted a career-best .500 hitting percentage (12-3-18).  
• Graduate Becca Micelle was credited with a career-best four assists. 
• Freshmen Kayla Channell and Bella Loeswick made their Chanticleer debuts, and senior Leah Olsen made her season debut. Loeswick had three assists.

Coastal continues play at the Wildcat Classic on Saturday, facing Elon at 10 a.m. and host Davidson at 6 p.m.
