CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's and men's cross country teams will return to competition this week at the 2022 NCAA Division I Cross Country Southeast Regional Championships hosted by the University of Louisville at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park on Friday, Nov. 11, in Louisville, Ky.
The women's 6k begins at 11 a.m. ET, while the men's 10k starts at noon ET. The top two teams and the first four finishers in the race not associated with those two teams will advance to the 2022 NCAA Championships, held Nov. 19 in Stillwater, Okla.
The women's team will send
Molly Jones,
Amilia Wise-Sweat,
Kylee Denver,
Ashley Rulison,
Ella Lehmann,
Tiarra Smith, and
Taylor Houston.
Jones will look to continue her stellar fall season after winning the women's 5k championship race at the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Women's Cross Country with a Coastal Carolina and a Sun Belt Conference record time of 16:29.5.
The win was her third victory of the 2022 fall season. She became the first Sun Belt Conference Women's Cross Country Individual Champion in Coastal Carolina history and the first women's cross country conference individual champion since Letitia Saayman won the Big South Conference Championship meet in 2015.
Wise-Sweat will look to continue to build on her 2022 season, as she crossed the finish line in 29th with a time of 18:28.8 at the Sun Belt Conference Championships, while finishing 10 spots behind Wise-Sweat was Denver with her time of 18:42.4.
The lone senior on the team, Rulison crossed the finish line in a time of 19:31.6, placing her in 61st overall, finishing in front of first-year Chants Lehmann (20:24.1), Smith (20:58.3), and Houston (21:22.5), who rounded out the runners for the Teal and Bronze, finishing 75th, 81st, and 83rd overall last time out at the conference championship meet.
On the men's side, the Chants will have five runners compete in the 10k event in
Tomas Duncan,
Ethan Blackwelder,
Trey Kraimer,
Hunter White, and
Jack Benoit.
Leading the way for the men's team at the Sun Belt Conference Championship meet was Duncan, as he finished 32nd overall with a time of 26:19.6. He crossed the finished line just three spots in front of fellow Chant Blackwelder and his 35th-place time of 26:37.4, while in 37th place was Kraimer with a time of 26:46.3.
Rounding out the lineup for CCU at the conference championship meet was White (27:34.9) and Benoit (28:34.7), as the duo finished in 49th and 57th place, respectively.
