Chanticleers Return to Columbia for the 2023 Carolina Challenge

Chants will compete on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 20-21
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University indoor track & field team will return to the campus of the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C., for the 2023 Carolina Challenge on Jan. 20-21.
The teams competing this week at the two-day indoor meet include Allen University, Anderson University, Barton College, Benedict College, The Citadel, Claflin University, Coastal Carolina, Coker University, Coppin State, Davidson, Emory, Furman, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Howard, Limestone, Montreat College, North Carolina A&T, North Greenville, Queens, South Carolina State, SCAD-Savannah, South Carolina, Southern Wesleyan, Tennessee, Troy, UNC Pembroke, Wake Forest, Western Carolina, and Winthrop.
Last week, the women's indoor track & field team posted three individual wins and a total of 24 top-10 finishes at the Gamecock Opener on Jan. 14 in Columbia.
The Chants picked up wins from Alexis Glasco in the 60-meter hurdles, Ellie Wolski in the 3000-meter run, and Camryn Lorick in the high jump, while six total Chants etched their names into the top-10 of the Coastal Carolina indoor track & field record book in six different events.
Coastal will send a total of 25 student-athletes to compete on the women's side, as Glasco, Sydney Clemens, Amelia Canetto, Lauren Gordon, Zaria Jones, Amanda Kinloch, Kayla Sweeney, Brianna Tillman, and Amaryah White will all compete in the sprint events, while Wolski, Taylor Houston, Molly Jones, Ella Lehmann, Ashley Rulison, Tiarra Smith, and Amilia Wise-Sweat are all slated to represent CCU in the distance events.
In the field events, Lorick, Kadasia Evans, Mia Lewis, Kirsten Maybach, and Claire Spiller are scheduled to compete in the jump events, while redshirt sophomore Kynnedy Dennis will take part in the women's pole vault event. Sophomores Lauralyn Clifford and Zayna Fray-Samuel will once again compete in the throws events, while senior Nikki Boon will compete in multiple events, including the high jump, shot put, 800-meters, and 60-meter hurdles.
CCU Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, Sandy Fowler, will also send several members of the men's track & field team to the two-day meet this weekend.
Returners Reggie Barlow, Ashlund Dixon, Albrey Gossett, Tyler Graves, DeShon Harris, DeVonte Harris, Robert Johnson, Garrett Wilkins, and Jaquon Williams will compete in the sprint, hurdles, and relay events, and will be joined by newcomers Deondre Hardy, Jaavier Jackson, and Christopher Kennedy-Vance in the sprint events.
Sophomore Tomas Duncan and first-year Chant Trey Kraimer will both run in the 3000-meters, while newcomer AJ McKay Jr. will take part in both the long jump and triple jump events at the two-day meet.
Coastal will have two Chants in Michael Martello and Chance Tressler compete in the men's shot put as well.
