Rain & Wind Limits Chants at Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational on Saturday

CCU will return to action next weekend in Columbia, S.C.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – It would be the rain, wind, and wet conditions that would slow down the Coastal Carolina men's and women's track & field teams on Saturday, as several Chanticleers did not compete on the final day of the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational held at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

A total of only 18 Chants competed across both the men's and women's teams on Saturday.

The women's team placed third overall in the team standings with 87 points overall. Coastal finished behind only Duke (247 points) and James Madison (111.5).

The men's team finished in fourth place overall with 61 points behind Duke (100 points), Slippery Rock (78), and Mount St. Mary's (65).

Women's Team

Posting a top-five finish on Saturday in the high jump event was Camryn Lorick and her leap of 1.64 meters, which placed her in third overall, while fellow Chant Amelia Canetto earned a third-place finish in the 400-meters with her time of 57.18.

In the 400-meter hurdles the Chants had two top-10 finishers with Amanda Kinloch (1:02.77) taking third and Lauren Gordon (1:04.55) finishing eighth overall.

Also competing for the Chants was freshman Brianna Tillman (26.21 (-1.5)), who finished 16th in the 200-meters and classmate Tiarra Smith (2:32.37), who crossed the finish line in 17th place in the 800-meters.

CCU's Ashley Rulison (5:46.17) and Taylor Houston (5:47.45) finished 37th and 38th, respectively, in the 1-mile run.

Men's Team

Turning in top-five finishes for the men's team on Saturday was senior Major Chestnut, who recorded a fifth-place finish in the discus with a throw of 45.05 meters, while sprinters Robert Johnson (48.94) and Brendan Kovar (49.26) crossed the finish line in third and fourth place, respectively, in the 400-meters with Kovar's time a new personal-best time.

Also picking up a third-place finish was freshman George Werner Jr. with his personal-best time of 10:12.42 in the 3000-meter steeplechase.

Just missing out on a top-five finish in the 200-meters was Albrey Gossett, who finished seventh overall with his time of 22.35 (-1.0), a new personal-best time, while newcomer Trey Kraimer recorded a 10th-place finish in the 1-mile run with his time of 4:27.71. His time was the sixth-best in CCU's history.

In the throws events, a trio of Chants competed in both the shot put and discus on Saturday. Michael Martello placed 13th overall in the discus (41.92) and (24th in the shot put (12.86m), Chance Tressler finished 18th in the shot put (13.38m) and 47th in the discus (32.56m), and Preston Lang finished 27th in the shot put (12.29m) and 23rd in the discus (38.33m) with a new personal-best mark.

Both the men's and women's track & field teams will return to action next weekend at the Weems Baskin hosted by the University of South Carolina on March 24-25.
