CONWAY, S.C. – After a two-week hiatus, the Coastal Carolina men's and women's track & field teams will return to competition this week at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational hosted by the University of Florida on April 14-15 in Gainesville, Fla.
The Chanticleers will be competing against teams all across the nation in host Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Boston College, Cincinnati, Clemson, Florida A&M, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Howard, Iowa, Jacksonville, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Lynn, Mississippi State, NC State, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Carolina A&T, North Florida, Northern Colorado, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Purdue, Rutgers, South Carolina, South Florida, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas, Texas State, Texas Tech, UCF, and VCU.
Women's Team
Coastal's women's team will send 20 student-athletes to compete across 13 events at the two-day invitational event.
Competing for the Women in Teal in the field events will be nine Chanticleers, headlined by
Camryn Lorick, as the sophomore ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference in the high jump event with a mark of 1.75 meters set last time out at the Weems Baskin Relays.
Joining Lorick in the high jump event will be senior
Kadasia Evans, while redshirt junior
Kynnedy Dennis will compete in the pole vault event.
Three Chants in sophomore
Keiran Martin, freshman
Destiny St. Cyr, and freshman
Mia Lewis are set to take part in the long jump event, while Lewis will join classmate
Claire Spiller in jumping in the triple jump event.
Coastal will have two competitors in the hammer throw event, as both
Zayna Fray-Samuel and
Lauralyn Clifford are scheduled to take part in the throws event.
On the track, the Chants will compete in several sprint, hurdle, and distance events, highlighted by sophomore
Alexis Glasco and her Sun Belt-best time of 13.01 (4.8) in the 100-meter hurdles.
Running in the 100-meter dash will be Lorick and junior
Kayla Sweeney, while Sweeney and classmates
Sydney Clemens and
Lauren Gordon will race in the 200-meters. Gordon,
Amelia Canetto, and
Brianna Tillman will compete for the Chants in the 400-meters.
Glasco, Clemens, and
Amanda Kinloch will take part in the 100-meter hurdles event, while junior
Alyssa Smith will join Glasco and Kinloch in the 400-meter hurdles.
In the distance events, sophomore
Amilia Wise-Sweat will run in the 800-meters, junior
Molly Jones race in the 1500-meters, while fellow distance runner
Ellie Wolski will compete in the 5000-meter run for the Chants.
Former Chant and now professional sprinter
Melissa Jefferson will compete in the Olympic Development 200-meter dash at the two-day event in Florida.
Men's Team
The men's squad will have 23 student-athletes compete for the Teal and Bronze.
Highlighted by newcomers
AJ McKay Jr., Deondre Hardy, and
Adrian Nwakalor, the Chanticleers will have eight student-athletes compete in a number of field events.
McKay Jr. will jump in the triple jump event, Hardy will compete in the long jump, and Nwakalor will take part in the high jump event.
In the throws events, senior
Major Chestnut and sophomore
Michael Martello will throw the discus, while Martello and freshman
Killian Oberheu will participate in the hammer throw. Martello is also set to compete in the shot put, along with freshman
Chance Tressler, while senior
Aaron Keeler will represent the Men in Teal in the javelin throw.
CCU will send several sprinters and hurdlers to the Sunshine State, headlined by Hardy,
Reggie Barlow,
Robert Johnson,
Braydon Bennett, and
Tyler Graves.
Barlow, Hardy,
Ashlund Dixon, and
Garrett Wilkins are set to compete in the 100-meters, while both Hardy and Wilkins will be joined by
Jaavier Jackson in the 200-meters. Johnson,
Brendan Kovar, and
Isaiah Thomas will run in the 400-meters for the Chanticleers.
Four other Chants will compete in the 110-meter hurdles in Bennett, Graves,
Albrey Gossett, and
Jaquon Williams, while Graves will do double duty by also running in the 400-meter hurdles event.
In the distance events, first-year Chant
Trey Kraimer will compete in the 1500-meters, while second-year Chant
Tomas Duncan will race in the 5000-meters. Both
Ethan Blackwelder and
George Werner Jr. will participate in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
