Track & Field Returns to Competition at Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational

Meet will be held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium

CONWAY, S.C. – Both the Coastal Carolina men's and women's track & field teams will return to action this weekend at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C., for the annual Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational on March 16-18.
 
The Chanticleers opened up its 2023 outdoor season last weekend at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge where the men's and women's teams combined to post 35 top-10, highlighted by a total of 10 first-place finishes.

 
Women's Team
 
The women's team will send 25 Chants to compete at the three-day event this weekend, headlined by five Chants who recorded first-place finishes last week in Camryn Lorick (high jump), Kynnedy Dennis (pole vault), Amanda Kinloch (100-meter hurdles), and Alyssa Smith (400-meter hurdles).
 
They will be joined by five other Chants that will be making their outdoor debuts this week in 2023 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field second-team All-American and Sun Belt Conference Alexis Glasco (100-meter hurdles), indoor track & field All-Sun Belt performers Zayna Fray-Samuel (hammer) and Molly Jones (5000-meters), as well as outdoor track & field 2022 All-Sun Belt first-team honoree Kayla Sweeney (100-meters) and sophomore Lauralyn Clifford (hammer).
 
CCU's Sweeney (100-meters), Lorick (100-meters), Destiny St. Cyr (100-meters), Sydney Clemens (200-meters), Brianna Tillman (200-meters), and Amelia Canetto (400-meters) will compete in the sprint events, while Clemens (100-meter hurdles), Kinloch (100 and 400-meter hurdles), Alyssa Smith (100 and 400-meter hurdles), and Lauren Gordon (400-meter hurdles) will race in the hurdles events on the weekend.
 
In the distance events, Tiarra Smith will compete in the 800-meters, while Taylor Houston and Ashley Rulison will run in the 1-mile run. Ellie Wolski will join Jones in the 5000-meters.
 
For the second-straight week, the Chants will have several student-athletes compete in the field events, as Olivia Lee will join Dennis in taking part in the pole vault event. Kadasia Evans and Lorick are set to compete in the high jump event, while Mia Lewis and Claire Spiller will compete in both the long and triple jump events.
 
CCU's Keiran Martin and St. Cyr will join Lewis and Spiller in the long jump competition, while Kirsten Maybach and Naturee Thomas will both compete in the triple jump for the Teal and Bronze.
 
 
Men's Team
 
The men's team will have a total of 27 Chants participate at the invitational, highlighted by last week's first-place finishers in Braydon Bennett (110-meter hurdles), Robert Johnson (400-meters), and AJ McKay Jr. (triple jump).
 
Reggie Barlow (100-meters), Deondre Hardy (100-meters), Garrett Wilkins (200-meters), Albrey Gossett (200-meters), DeVonte Harris (100 and 400-meters), Jaquon Williams (200-meters), Johnson (400-meters), Brendan Kovar (100 and 400-meters), and Adrian Nwakalor (400-meters) are all scheduled to compete in the sprint events.
 
Three Chants in Gossett, Tyler Graves, and Williams will join Bennett in the 110-meter hurdles events while competing for the men's team in the distance events will be Jack Benoit (800-meters), Camren Stamp (800-meters), Isaiah Thomas (800-meters), Hunter White (800-meters), Ethan Blackwelder (5000-meters), Tomas Duncan (5000-meters), Trey Kraimer (1-mile run) and George Werner Jr. (3000-meter steeplechase).
 
In the field events, Major Chestnut will again compete in the discus throw, while Aaron Keeler will throw the javelin. Michael Martello is slated to compete in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw events, while newcomers Preston Lang and Chance Tressler will join him in both the shot put and discus events.
 
Newcomer Killian Oberheu will throw the hammer, while fellow freshmen McKay Jr. and Hardy will both compete in both the long and triple jump events on the weekend.
